Which water purification system does your home actually need?

It is decided by one number — the TDS of your water, measured at your own tap. Not by brand, not by price, and not by what the shop wants to sell.

Below 300 TDSYou do not need RO. A UV or UF purifier is enough — an RO here strips the minerals and wastes three litres for every one it cleans. We will tell you this even though it is the cheaper sale.
300 – 500 TDSBorderline. RO + UV or RO + UF works well and keeps the taste. 500 is the BIS limit for drinking water in India.
Above 500 TDSAn RO system is genuinely needed. Which membrane depends on how high the TDS is and how many people live in the house — not on fitting the biggest one.
Above 2000 TDSBore water territory. A high-TDS membrane and often pre-treatment. Fitting an ordinary RO here means a complaint within months.

A bigger membrane is not a cleaner one. GPD is how fast the tank fills, not how pure the water is — a 75 GPD membrane actually removes more than a 150 GPD one. Anyone selling you the biggest membrane because your TDS is high has it backwards.
